The Way

The Author of Life consented to die
Death had a victory.
The earth gave a shudder, the land was dark,
No good soul could see.

How could this be the good plan of God,
Above the thoughts of man?
Either God had lost or else turned bad,
How could this be His hand?

As evil triumphed and good men wept,
All that was right seemed gone.
Yet when the LORD is in the fight,
The battle is not done.

How often in this earthly world
Our eyes don't truly see.
Where we see despair or certain defeat,
God works mightily.

With a triumphant quake one early morn,
The truth was seen at last.
The Author of Life could not be held down,
Death's dark rule was past.

Wonder of wonders, joy of joys,
Beyond all earthly thought!
God granted to us this great victory,
The peace for which He fought.

No matter the struggle, sin, or setback,
No matter the earthly loss,
We as God's people are assured of great gain,
Because of the Tomb and the Cross.

Death seemed at first to have full rein,
Wreaking grief and strife.
But God knew all along that this would be
The way to give us Life.

A Soldier of the Cross

I am a soldier of the cross.
Its call bids me to give my life
And take up danger, toil, and strife.
All this to drain away my dross
For I am a soldier of the cross.

I am a soldier of the cross.
I daily pursue the highest aim
To glorify, exalt that Name.
All else of mine I count as loss,
For I am a soldier of the cross.

I am a soldier of the cross.
What call can this world have on me?
I travel upward steadily
E'en when I face the stormy toss
For I am a soldier of the cross.

I am a soldier of the cross.
For I was dead as dead can be
Yet Jesus gave Himself for me.
How can I waver when He paid the cost
To make me a soldier of the cross.

I am a soldier of the cross.
One day I will reach my prize
And then I'll see with my own eyes
It was well worth any earthly loss
To be a soldier of the cross.

So Much at Stake

We live our lives from day to day
We work, we eat, we sleep, we play.
Is this all there is to what we call life
To live comfortably here – free from strife?

What about those whose lives are led
Dreaming of good food and a nice warm bed?
What about they who have never heard
Of the one true God and His Son, the Word?

We have all we need and we know what is true
Yet the harvest is great and the workers are few.
Will we choose to spend our one short life
Living for Jesus or fleeing from strife?

The choice is mine – I make it everyday
To live for myself or on the godly way.
May we never forget that others still wait
For someone to tell them before it’s too late.

There’s so much at stake as we live out our days,
So many others must hear of God’s ways.
So pick up your shield and unsheathe your Sword,
There’s a battle to fight for the glory of the Lord.

The battle’s still raging – it will for awhile
Truth is rejected and falsely on trial.
So pick up your shield and unsheathe your Sword,
There’s a battle to fight in the Name of the Lord.
